Winter’s Stay is Short-Lived

It’s official: today’s 3.8″ snowfall was Hingham’s largest of the winter season today. As expected, a general 3-6″ of snow fell here in Hingham, and really around all of Greater Boston.

Here’s a round-up of a few snowfall totals: Plymouth 7.0″; Saugus 5.0″; Weymouth 5.0″; Wayland 4.0″; Boston 3.8″; Holbrook 3.5″.

The biggest surprise of this event came just outside of our forecast area, along the South Coast and across the Cape and Islands. There, a widespread 6-12″ fell including 10.0″ in Bourne and 12.0″ in New Bedford.

Since the snow was fluffy, you’ll notice it compress pretty quickly. And by early next week, melting will take place in earnest. Temperatures on Monday and Tuesday will climb to near 50 degrees. Rain showers will also move through the area Monday into very early Tuesday.
