Teens Rescued from Frigid Norwell Swamp

Swamp Rescue of Teens in Norwell, Mt. Blue StreetOn the coldest night of the winter season, three 14-year old boys became lost in a swampy area of Norwell.

Emergency crews from Norwell were joined by K9 units from Hingham and Scituate around 9 PM Tuesday as the search kicked into high gear off of Mt. Blue Street. Lost in deep brush, officials called in the Massachusetts State Police Air Wing to assist with the search from the air.

The helicopter was able to locate the teens deep in a swampy area behind 455 Mt. Blue Street. Two Norwell firefighters donned survival suits as they waded through chest-deep water to reach the teens.

The firefighters assessed the teens in the swamp and determined they had no injuries. A second team of  firefighters was sent in just before 11 PM to provide survival suits for the three teens.

The teens were finally escorted out of the woods by 11:20 PM.

Temperatures throughout the rescue were between 24 and 28 degrees.
